Do heat pumps really work in Nova Scotia winters?
Yes. Modern cold-climate heat pumps keep producing heat at −25 °C and below. We size systems for your home's actual heat load so the heat pump is a genuine primary heat source, with backup only for the rare extreme cold snap.
What does a heat pump cost in Nova Scotia?
It depends on the type of system and the number of zones. A single-zone ductless system is the most affordable entry point; multi-zone and whole-home ducted systems cost more but heat the entire house. Every quote we give is itemized and includes any electrical work and the rebates you qualify for, so there are no surprises.
Which rebates can I get?
Nova Scotia has several programs — Efficiency Nova Scotia rebates through a Home Energy Assessment, enhanced rebates for moderate-income households, HomeWarming for income-qualified homeowners and financing options in some municipalities. We walk you through what applies to your situation and help with the paperwork.
Will I need an electrical panel upgrade?
Most ductless systems work with your existing panel. A centrally ducted heat pump usually needs 200-amp service to count as your main heat source for insurance. Because our Red Seal electricians are part of the team, we check this during the quote and can install a load-management device or upgrade the panel as part of the same job.
Can I keep my oil furnace?
Yes. An add-on heat pump integrates with your existing furnace and carries the heating load most of the year, with the furnace as backup. Or convert fully to an electric air handler and leave oil behind entirely — we quote both.
How long does installation take?
Most single-zone ductless systems are installed in a single day. Multi-zone and ducted systems typically take one to three days, including electrical work.
Do you service heat pumps installed by someone else?
Yes. We repair and maintain all major residential and light-commercial brands, whoever installed them.
